Growth in an age of change

I help businesses find smarter ways to attract, serve, and grow their customers.

Start a conversation

Things are changing. For decades, businesses have learned how to be found through search, bring people to a website, and use advertising, email, and familiar marketing channels to stay visible. Those things still matter. But the environment around them is changing quickly.

The change is happening on both sides. Businesses have access to capabilities that used to be too expensive, too slow, or too labour intensive to pursue. Customers are also finding answers, comparing options, and deciding who to trust in new ways.

From search results to answers. People are still searching, but they are increasingly asking platforms and AI assistants to help them understand a problem, compare options, and find a solution. Being visible is no longer only about appearing in a list of links.

From one digital doorway to many moments of trust. A website is still important, but it is no longer the only place where a first impression is formed. Listings, reviews, social platforms, recommendations, and useful answers all shape whether a business feels credible and worth considering.

From too expensive to justify, to worth doing. Creating relevant content, testing ideas, and staying in touch used to require more time and money than many businesses could justify. New capabilities make more of that work possible, provided there is a clear purpose behind it.

From follow up by memory to active, timely follow up. Enquiries, quotes, and past customer relationships should not depend entirely on someone remembering what to do next. Routine work can now be supported more consistently, while people remain responsible for judgement, context, and important conversations.

From service as a transaction to customer experience as a conversation. Customers increasingly expect useful answers, responsive help, and communication that understands what has already happened. Good experiences are becoming more personal, more continuous, and more connected to the relationship around them.

From one off interactions to ongoing relationships. A review, referral, repeat purchase, or future enquiry should not be treated as a lucky extra. The opportunity is to make the right moments easier to notice, easier to act on, and more useful for both the customer and the business.

AI and automation are not the point. They are part of the new capability behind the shift. The real question is what your business can now do that was previously impractical, and what your customers now expect that you may not yet be prepared for.

The businesses that move forward will not be the ones that use the most technology. They will be the ones that understand what has changed and put the right capabilities to work in the right places.

You might be here because…

Business is going fine. But things are changing quickly, especially with AI. I don’t want to wake up in two years and realise competitors have quietly got much better at attracting customers, following up, serving them and running the business.

You have a real business, existing customers, good work, and a reputation worth building on.

You suspect there are opportunities being missed, but you do not need someone to sell you another tool. You need someone independent who can understand the whole picture, tell you what actually matters, and help you do the right things in the right order.

What I help with

I help improve the growth side of your business: how people find you, decide to choose you, and experience what happens next.

Get found

Make sure your business is visible and credible wherever customers are looking, including search, maps, listings, reviews, social platforms, and AI assisted discovery.

Get chosen

Make your website, offer, proof, and communication clear enough to help the right people understand why you are worth choosing.

Stay connected

Improve follow up, repeat business, reminders, reviews, referrals, and other useful moments that are easy to miss when everything depends on memory.

Improve the experience

Make it easier for customers to get useful answers, receive timely help, and feel understood throughout the relationship.

How we can work together

There is no single starting point. We can begin with what your business needs and what makes sense for your current situation.

Assessment

Take stock of where things are now, identify opportunities and quick wins, and create a sensible plan you can follow yourself or deliver with outside help.

Ongoing progress

Work steadily through the most useful improvements, with practical guidance that helps your internal team build confidence and capability as they go.

Self help playbook

Get a clear, practical path to your quickest wins when money is tight, so you can improve your position now and invest in bigger opportunities later.

When implementation is needed, I can help you find the right people, guide the work, and make sure the time and money are being spent on the right things.

Why More Pie exists

More Pie is a small, independent practice run by me, Alan Cox. I started it because good businesses are facing a rare opportunity: useful capabilities are becoming more accessible, while customers are changing how they choose and engage.

My role is to help you see what matters, decide what to do next, and make progress in the right order. I’m not here to sell you a particular tool or service. I’m here to help you get more value from the business you’ve already built.

Why trust me?

You probably shouldn’t trust anyone just because they wrote a convincing paragraph on a website. Trust is earned.

I’ve spent decades building businesses and helping companies untangle complex problems, improve marketing and customer experience, and turn good ideas into practical action. People I’ve worked with tend to describe me as clear, honest, creative, practical, and good at making complexity easier to understand.

Ask around Christchurch, look at my LinkedIn recommendations, and make up your own mind. If I’m not the right person, I’ll say so.

Curious?

The best place to start is with an informal 10 minute chat. Not selling. Just me hearing from you and working out quickly if we’re a match.
